$2,500,000.00 - Motor Vehicle Accident Relating To Negligence of General Contractor
Plaintiff was a passenger in a motor vehicle who suffered multiple injuries as a result of a 25 car pile-up on the Gowanus Expressway. A construction company performing work on the roadway left a hose on overnight causing water to flow onto the roadway. As a result of unexpectedly cold temperatures,a 200 foot patch of ice formed on the roadway. Plaintiff
suffered injuries to both shoulders which required surgery as well as neck and lower back injuries which required surgery. Plaintiff was unemployed at the time of his accident, so there was no claim for lost earnings.

$800,000.00 - Shooting Victims –Negligent Security– Gun Shot wounds
HKD represented plaintiffs who sustained serious injuries including gun shot wounds requiring surgery and various fractures. Plaintiffs were attending a party at Chelsea Piers when they were caught in the cross-fire of gun play. Plaintiffs sued the property owner for negligent security. HKD defeated a motion for summary judgment and won the ensuing appeal in the Appellate Division, First Department. The case settled before jury selection for $800,000.00.
$750,000.00 - Multiple Plaintiffs – Negligent Crowd Control – Fractures
HKD represented two plaintiffs who were injured while attending a free concert ticket give-a-way. The defendants failed to provide adequate crowd control causing the plaintiffs to be pushed into the street where they were struck by an oncoming vehicle. Each plaintiff sustained fractures requiring surgery. Plaintiff sued the radio station that sponsored the event for negligence. The case resolved at mediation for $750,000.00.
$550,000.00 - Negligent Police Pursuit of a Stolen Vehicle
Police were chasing a stolen vehicle without using their lights and sirens. The suspect ran three red lights before crashing into plaintiff. HKD argued that plaintiff was not given and warning since the police were not utilizing their lights and sirens. Plaintiff suffered a brachial plexus injury, fractured ribs and a torn rotator cuff. The case settled with the City of New York just prior to jury selection for $500,000. HKD recovered an additional $50,000 against plaintiff's own insurance company under his SUM/UM coverage.
